The secret of the dark chamber

Photography workshop

We will take children through the history of photography from the very beginnings to cameras in mobile phones. We will show them how photographs are made in professional studios. We will build our own simple camera, too, take a photo and send it to your email. We will uncover the secret of the dark chamber and create a photogram that each child will be able to take home…

Photogram – in red lighting objects with various transparency are laid on photographic paper. After exposure, development and fixing, everyone will be able take take their image with them.

Instructions for participants: old clothing to change into, bring your favorite toy (up to 20 cm big)

BcA. Zbyněk Hrbata (*1982, Moravská Třebová)

Studied the Institute of Creative Photography at the Slezian University in Opava. In 2015 he was shortlisted in the top 10 photographers in the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards competition in the category of travel photography. During his 6 month trip in 2014 around Asia he cooperated with non-profit organizations NaZemi and Clean Clothes focusing on improving working conditions of people. He documented child labor in Bangladesh textile factories or the fall of the textile factory Rana Plaza in Savar. He worked as a photographer at Brno’s HaDivadlo (2008-2010), as the head photographer in the photographic studio of VUT Faculty of Architecture in Brno (2003-2007), and as an instructor of photographic courses of the Erasmus program. He will be cooperating with Ema Vlčková at this workshop.
